Chapter 9 - Ben

Ben was used to shopping alone, but he'd grown so used to having Jessica by his side, even if it'd only been a day, that he almost felt lonely without her now. Thankfully, he had her waiting for him at home, and he could look forward to returning to her.

He wandered to the fresh produce section of the grocery store, passing leisurely shoppers browsing the various goods on display.

Despite missing Jessica already, he didn't rush through the store. He wanted to reclaim his place by her side as soon as possible, to run his hands along her sides, feel her soft skin, take her breasts in his hands again, take her again ... but he also wanted to make sure she had some alone time. He didn't want to overwhelm her with his presence and a million new things all at once.

So instead of being pushy, he was trying to give her time to explore the house on her own, unpack her things, and rest a little. Surely, she'd want to catch up with her friends and tell everyone she arrived safely.

For her sake, Ben restrained himself from grabbing the items he needed and running home to be with her. He scented fresh basil, even though he had some at home in his garden, felt the tomatoes, picked the freshest, tastiest arugula, and then headed to find flour and pepperoni to replenish his stock.

One of the very first things Ben learned about Jessica was her love for artisan pizzas. Not only artisan pizzas, but pepperoni pizza. Those were Ben's favorite, too, and though he baked them in the wood-burning pizza oven he'd built in his back yard, he didn't think he'd ever get sick of it. And because he knew Jessica loved them, too, Ben wanted to treat her to one of his very best.

Having her at his house was ... amazing, but surreal was how Ben really had to describe it. He'd never enjoyed being around a woman so much. He hadn't ever had a real girlfriend, but he'd had plenty of women in his life, and none of them affected him even a fraction of how much Ben was drawn to Jessica.

His bear went crazy around her, too. Clawing at his insides, begging to be let free, urging him to give in to his animalistic instincts and be with her.

There wasn't really any other way Ben could think about it. Jessica was his mate. He'd already suspected it before she came to Clearwater to marry him and live on the ranch, but now he knew for sure. Even after a day, her scent permeated every inch of his house. He even smelled her on his clothes.

He loved it unlike anything else. He loved her unlike anything else. His wife. Jessica, all his ...

And he had to believe she felt the same way about him. The way she looked at him, the fact that she came here at all despite being so skeptical at first ...

She was too good to be true.
